At one point in the podcast the aspect of micromanaging came into discussion and I just wanted to elaborate more on that. From personal experience, too many contacts about a project or goal can be detrimental towards progress. These constant reminders can cause an employee to feel his manger has lost trust in them. In my personal experience, what bothered me was the time interference. I did not think my manager didn’t trust me, but I found I had no time to complete the tasks given because

From what I lived during the lockdown I can give testimony of the importance of setting and monitoring goals. I like interacting with people, commuting to work, sitting at my desk. Needless to say I despised working from home. It is my first time hearing of the idea of MBO, however it truly resonates with me. I might have been utilizing MBO with my tasks at home without realizing. Setting goals and monitoring is important since it gives a sense of continuity when every day feels the same.

Working from home is a new challenge for most as in the employees and management team. From my experience I have yet to have to work from home because I work in retail at a grocery store but this doesn’t mean I have not taken anything back from this podcast. I really took away the idea of driving employees while being away. Away from me would be my boss being off one day or on vacation. Listening to this podcast I will take away how to keep in touch while I’m off by just texting in and asking

Working at an accounting office, I did not experience the work shut down or working from home. Although, I know many people that have had to adjust their lives and understand how frustrating it can be to work remotely. Encouragement and support as well as positive feedback to employees gives them assurance of their progress in a very unsure time we are in.

I like the idea of the manager being encouraging and letting the employees know they are supportive. Far too often at work, I see employees working from home and they are kind of forgotten about. I completely agree with “be there, but don’t micromanage.” This podcast was 100% correct. As I mentioned above, I see employees forgotten about, meaning they are kept out of the loop.

Managers must be encouraging, set goals for employees, and seek feedback from employees. This is also very important because it can make an employee feel very respected and cared about by the company as well as keep employees on track with work. One of the final things that I was able to take away from the pod cast was that a manager should be positive. I think this also goes a long way in the classroom, when the instructor is happy it makes the students happy.

One thing that was mentioned in the pod cast that I have come to realize myself is that face to face brainstorming and learning is always better than doing it through a computer. This is important because of our situation in the country, so this fact helps us understand that working form home will be difficult for a while. Another important thing that was discussed was how managers interact with employees while people are working from home.
