For many people, working from home brings a set of challenges. They have to work around their kids and they don't have that face to face interaction that motivates them to get through the day. I find that encouraging your employees and letting them know to feel free to reach out to you is important. Along with that I think feedback is absolutely necessary to reassure the individual that they are doing good and staying on track with the goals and task set before them. -Rebecca Torres MAN3303

(Garrett Klemm man3240) I agree that working from home can be more distracting. It’s good to have a manager that encourages employees. Positive feedback can boost their confidence. I would definitely not micro-manage if I knew the employees had a good knowledge of their job role.

I have worked from home for two years and I love it. I write a list of daily goals in addition to my regular responsibilities. While I miss the human element, the time I save commuting to work is a great alternative. It does require an employee to be responsible to the employer. It may not work all people but it enables me to work longer and more effectively.

MAN3303 - Having a daily goal list of tasks that need to be completed is a good way to keep employees engaged at home. Having a daily phone conversation or a zoom meeting to make sure that everyone is on the same page. Over communicating from a manager can make the employee feel like the manager doesn’t trust them in completing the task they’ve been asked to do.

This is a great and informative podcast about working from home. I learned that communicating in an encouraging way can motivate employees and sympathize how working from home can be challenging. Being positive thanking them for their sacrifice makes a person feel appreciated. Monitoring employees will help keep employees on track. Setting weekly short term goals are important to set and provide validation to make employees feel secure.

Motivation especially in times like these are difficult. Finding new ways to collaborate and interact is imminent. Zoom has been one good example of how this has been done. We now have a means of communication from home. Now we can still work in our teams and motivate each other from calls.

This was a great podcast given our current work status. Work is a social gathering for me. I do not socialize much so i need the personal contact from my coworkers. So the employer must be encouraging and accessible for me to work this type of system. They need to give me precise instructions and active feedback on my progress or if I am doing the assignment correctly. Individually, I have to keep my self motivated and focused. That was such a informative podcast! It really broke down how it explained communication and how positive feedback is very important when running a joyful and successful business. When there is not leadership and slacking off in management it will effect the staffs performance and attitudes towards the job. Management is the biggest factor in a successful team.

Miceli - MAN4442. It’s important to have that open line of communication between managers and coworkers to keep that motivation and drive when working from home. I find it extremely helpful to have words of encouragement from my manager! There are so many distractions when working from home, so knowing that my manager sees my effort is helpful. I do also agree with setting goals to keep on track and maintaining good work ethic and time management.

Balance is key. This episode illustrates how a sector of communication, feedback, can have an essential role within staff interactions. Properly emphasized that to much can be perceived as micromanagement. Whereas, not enough can lead to unhappy staff ultimately becoming under productive. Management will play key role in maintaining optimal communication.
