I think every boss/manager needs to listen to this. So often they try to make the "person fit the job". I think everyone would be much happier and do a much better job if each job (even if we have to make more positions) was sculpted to fit each person.

I believe that many times jobs are created with someone in mind. There are certainly requires or needs that organizations have but as you go from company to company the same job title can have different duties and even requirements.

(Shion Simpson MAN 3240) A lot of people may think that money is the biggest motivation factor in the workplace. Contrary to comment belief, job design is the biggest motivator in the workplace. A proper job design can create a sense of job enrichment and help improve productivity.

From listening to the Job Design podcast I was able to realize that every job can be adjusted and molded to the individuals in the positions skills. When interviewing candidates for an open position, interviewers look for the applicant they see best fitting the position. Job designs that are flexible create better opportunity for success.

Job specialization, job enlargement and job enrichment are all ways to make your jobs more effective and efficient. I think most importantly job enrichment gives employees ownership of their job and motivates them to do their best at it. Giving your employees a positive work environment, job responsibilities, and empowering them with trust are ways to have happy employees.

This podcast really explains the meaning of job design. I find that job specialization does make the motivation of the employees better. When employees feel that they have a job that they enjoy the outcome it great.

I think the biggest point made or the most impacting factor is the encouragement and trust factor, making an employee feel as if they are necessary for the job and that's their job (giving the sense of ownership) will give a huge positive impact on the employee's performance. Trust is a must, giving the employee the feeling of being trusted by giving he or her more power over their job is a critical aspect for better performance and happiness
